How to quickly level up a character in Starfield

We tell you how to level up a character in Starfield.

The fastest way to gain XP

The fastest way to get experience is to attack friendly spaceships, leave only one alive and destroy its engine, board it and kill the entire crew, quickly move to the Lodge and quickly return back so that the spaceships respawn, repeat. Each spaceship you destroy gives a lot of experience, and defeating the crew on board gives even more. Using this method, you get about 1200 XP per playthrough (4 minutes).

Warning : This method is for reaching level 100 when there is nothing else left in your playthrough. For this you will receive a high reward. If you return to New Atlantis, you will lose your rewards and go to jail. So only do this when you've reached the end of the game! Please save manually before attempting this.

  • In the settings, choose an easy difficulty. This will speed up the process.
  • Fast travel to the System: Alpha Centauri > Landing Location: The Eye (near Planet: Jamison).
  • Usually there are 1-2 high-level UC Vanguard spaceships, a level 30 Chimaera and a level 32 Phalanx (varies slightly).
  • Destroy all ships except one. For the laston the ship, destroy the Engine (attack until its shield disappears, then block it and press Xbox: X / PC: R to enter aim mode and select "ENG" at the bottom of the screen. Keep shooting at the Engine.
  • Once the engine is destroyed, fly close to the ship, climb up on it by aiming the scanner at it, and press Xbox: LB > hold X / PC: F > hold R. You should be within a few hundred meters.
  • Destroy all enemies on the ship as quickly as possible. A good weapon is Equinox, it quickly defeats enemies and does not waste a lot of ammo. These ships have a high level crew, about 15 enemies. Most of them are armored and give 63 experience per kill, some are unarmored and give 23 experience per kill.
  • After all the enemies have been defeated, quickly travel to the Lodge on Jemison. Quickly return to the Eye immediately and the spaceships will respawn. Repeat the process over and over again.
  • Defeating the whole team should give around 1000 XP. If 2 spaceships spawned, destroying one gives up to 276 experience points. Combined, this should give you around 1200 XP per playthrough.

By the time you're done with all the other achievements, you'll likely be at level 40. It takes 410,570 XP to go from level 40 to level 100. If you can average 1200 XP every 4 minutes, you'll be sweating.23 hours are required. It's quite a lot of time, but it's better than running around scanning things that would take hundreds of hours.

other methods

Certain foods increase experience gain for a limited time. For example, you can use the Cooking Station in the lodge's basement to make "Alien Tea" (available from the start) to gain +2% XP for 15 minutes. Some food vendors in cities also sell food with experience effects. The downside is that gathering ingredients takes time and doesn't give you much experience (and if you have a big reward, you won't be able to roam freely in some cities). Just in case you have XP products, use them.

The best method of leveling XP at the beginning of the game

You get XP for just about everything you do in the game. Visit all star systems and fly to all planets. Scan all the Gas Planets, since there is nothing else to explore on them, they immediately give a bonus for completing a single scan. Typically you get 20 experience points for visiting planets/moon and a bonus 50 experience points for scanning a gas planet. Visiting star systems for the first time also grants additional experience. There are 111 star systems and over 1000 planets/moons.

Points are also awarded when you defeat enemies.
