Although the game requires seven shards to assemble an artifact, players will only be able to find six of them by exploring the caves on the island. The map provided shows where to find these fragments, but navigating the labyrinthine dungeons can be tricky. If you've already played Sons of the Forest during the Early Access phase, you should be familiar with some of these caves, though it's worth considering that some caves have been significantly modified or new ones added since the official release. The final, seventh artifact shard only becomes available after completing the game's main storyline.
The best place to start looking for the shards is in the cave where the aqualung and stun gun are available. There are enemies waiting for you in each of the caves you explore, but you don't necessarily have to engage them in battle. They are usually located in spacious halls, so you can just pass them by. However, before going into the caves, it is recommended to check two of the three locations with purple marks on the map - there you will find a gun and a flashlight.
When entering the cave, remove the planks and immediately collect useful items including ammo, pick up the note and interact with the laptop. Don't miss the oxygen tank on the floor, it will come in handy later on.
Go through the tunnel where bats will fly out from around the corner and you will find yourself in a lighted tunnel with monsters. It is better not to touch them and move on to the fork.
At the fork, on the left is the way to the scuba diver, and on the right is the way to the artifact and stun gun.
Go to the right and you will see two enemies at the fork: the right leads to the stun gun and the left to the artifact. It is recommended to look around and search the skeletons; one of them will point to the location of the cross blueprint.

Turn left, remove the boards blocking the path, and walk past the hanging crosses of the cultists. A small room with a boarded-up exit awaits you. Remove the boards and climb down the rope to the bottom.
Go past the adit with hanging skeletons and dismantle the next blocked passage. At the cross of planks, turn left and jump into the narrow opening between the stones. In the dead end you will find the item you are looking for.
If this is your first time in this cave, go back, turn right at the last fork and take the stun gun from the hanging corpse.
Then go back to the fork with the lantern and turn left to reach the water where the aqualung is. You can test it out right away by diving into the water and swimming through the only passage to emerge at the cave entrance.
To make it easier to find artifacts and progress through the game, you need to locate a tether hidden in one of the caves on the west side of the island. The entrance is near the river that flows into the lake. Usually the entrance to such caves is blocked by wooden planks, so use any available means to get through.
At the entrance, find valuable items such as watches, rags, fresh meat and canned goods scattered around a single lamp. Follow the single tunnel and jump into the spacious tunnel, where many enemies await you. The decision to kill them or not is left up to you, but you'll have to face at least one of them to choose.
After going down the main path to the exit is through the left tunnel, and to get to the artifact you need to jump to the water on the right. Before you do this, look around and pick up a lot of useful items such as a cross and crafting resources, and find a document next to the body of one of the workers.
When you're ready, go to the cliff where the water is flowing down. Jump down and swim underwater to the right. There you will find a rope, although you don't need it now. Dive into the water again on the opposite side and swim forward to get into the narrow passage and get rid of the wooden planks.
You are now in an adit with a golden pedestal with an artifact on it. Go around to the right to pick it up.
After that, go back to the nearest rope, climb higher, get the planks out of the way and turn left. Make your way to the waterfall, where you'll find another rope leading you back to the starting location.
However, your adventure is not over. The way up is blocked, so you'll have to follow the only tunnel and fight a huge monster stuck between the rocks. If you have some vodka bottles or a grenade, you can use them to build a Molotov cocktail or to save ammo.
Further on, the path will be straight, but you will encounter many strong enemies. Keep running to the end of the location, collecting loot and studying the notes next to the workers' bodies. At the end of the path, when the corridor narrows, turn right at the fork and go under the rock. There you'll find many more small newborn monsters. After passing through the water adit, go up to the cliff. Next to the corpse in the case will be a rope gun.
Interestingly, the next two fragments can be found by exploring the same cave. Like most caves, this one has two entrances, and you can use both of them - you don't have to go through the entire cave from start to finish. However, it is better to go all the way through it the first time.
The entrance to the dungeon is located near the previous cave, next to a large lake. Break the planks and go inside. This location is almost not branched, you will have to follow a single path, so there will be no problems with the search for artifacts.
How to find the third artifact shard and the Ancient Armor: Right at the entrance, in front of the water, there is an air tank. Take it, because you will have a long swim underwater in this dungeon. Dive in and follow the only path. When you do, look around and find another tank. Follow the narrow passage to find yourself in a dungeon with monsters. You can ignore them, quickly collect loot and jump off the cliff. A scene will start where the hero falls into the water.
Swim to the left, guided by the life jackets. You will encounter locked containers and monsters along the way. At the water you can examine the large boulder on the left, behind which you can find ammo. Continue to the golden gate in front of you.
At the fork, turn left and run forward until you find a large golden wall with a passage, behind which lies a cultist's corpse and a loot case. Continue running through the cave to emerge into a large adit with a waterfall.
Keep to the left wall at all times to avoid getting confused. A light will appear in front of you, follow towards it. Go past the corpses and the room with golden columns, then climb up the rocks into the narrow passage.
Just beyond it will be a corridor blocked by wooden planks where crosses are hanging. Break the planks and climb down the rope. After that, run down the narrow passage with golden columns, dive into the water and swim towards the golden glow. Eventually you should reach a tunnel with a spaceship and bright flashes of lightning.
Go around the ship to the left, then get rid of the planks at the back of it to enter. Take the artifact shard in the pilot's hand, remember to equip it with armor. At this point, a funny scene will begin.
How to find the fourth artifact shard: Leave the ship and run along the only path leading to the top of the cave. Here, find a rope and then another rope.
You will find yourself in a tunnel with suspended skeletons. Examine the cubbyhole on the left to break the locked crates and poke them. After that, find the next rope, climb up, move forward and dive into the water. There will be an oxygen tank lying just in front of the water.
Once you get to the surface, you will find yourself in a tunnel with two monsters. It is recommended to run past them and climb the rope above. After a short passage, there will be several ropes down, as well as a long descent into the water. Get out of the water and get ready to face a couple more enemies in the next room. You need to follow the only corridor to a barred passage, behind which there are crosses hanging again.
You will enter a tunnel with a golden pedestal. Go upstairs and take the fourth artifact shard.
To get out, run through the passage with the golden columns and dive under the water. You will find yourself in a room with a skeleton on a chair where the exit is located.
The penultimate shard available on the island before the end of the storyline is hidden in a cave that also contains a pickaxe. This cave is located on the northwestern part of the island, and to get here from the previous dungeon, you'll have to go around the mountain. The entrance to the cave is different from the previous dungeons, as it is just a hole in the ground with a rope tied to it.
Go down and head to the right where the water flows, then jump off the cliff. To the right of the water you will see a bag with supplies and an oxygen tank. To continue your way through the cave, dive in and swim down the only passage, passing the tethered corpses.
When you get out of the water, you'll find yourself at a fork. There will be a barred passage on the left and an open one on the right. As you can guess, the path to the artifact leads through the broken boards.
Walk forward a bit into the small room, but beware of falling! Near the hole in the ground you'll find a blueprint - take it, then use the rope.
Continue along the narrow passage, then duck down and crawl under the rocks. If you go left, you'll find some locked loot crates. If you go straight ahead, you'll enter a tunnel with crosses that will lead you to a tunnel with an artifact.
Go back to the fork where you destroyed the wooden planks using the ropes. Continue along the only passage until you see a glowing piece of solaphite ore with a pickaxe sticking out of it. Collect as much of this ore as you can - it will come in handy when you use the artifact in the future! To get out of the cave, use the ropes twice and climb up.
The last shard is hidden in a relatively new cave added to the game recently. The entrance to the dungeon is in a small fishing camp on the shore at the northwestern end of the island. There are only three huts here, and one of them is boarded up. Break the boards and examine the far right side of the house. You'll also have to break the planks on the floor.
Head down the stairs to the bottom. You will find yourself in a small hallway. There is a room with skeletons on the right, but it is empty. Examine the corpse to the right of the barred passage and take the note that describes how to collect the artifact.
Break the planks and use the rope to climb down. If you get out of the water, you can find two wooden locked crates with loot. Then go to the ledge on the left and unlock the barricaded passage. Next, you'll be faced with a steep downward slope, followed by another blocked tunnel. Behind the planks you will see a golden cross.
Use the rope to climb down and examine the golden skeletons on the right side of the adit. They are standing next to the sixth artifact shard. To get outside, find the golden skeleton that points to the rope.
The only way to get the remaining shard and create the artifact is to stay on the island after the final boss battle. A cutscene starts, in which the collected shards appear from the main character's inventory and his backpack flies away from him a few meters. If you decide to stay on the island, approach and interact with him. But this way you won't get the ending, when all members of the rescue operation leave the island.
The helicopters will fly away, and there will be a light in the distance that breaks into several bright beams. You need to head to this area and go down to the very bottom of the cave to find the last piece of the artifact.
Open the inventory and combine all the pieces to get a unique item. To use it, you'll need to mine solafite ore, deposits of which you may have met earlier in the story in various dungeons. Of course, for its extraction will also need a pickaxe.
First, recharge the artifact using solaphyte ore. To do this, press the R key and watch the animation.
What the artifact does:
How to turn items into gold:
To take advantage of each of these features, you must first craft various objects. Turning items into gold is probably the easiest action to use if you have Solaphite ore in your inventory. To do this, take the artifact in your hands, point it at any object and use it. In addition to the beautiful color, the thing turned into gold will be much stronger and more durable than wood or stone.
How to make a teleporter:
For many Sons of the Forest players, teleport is probably the most useful artifact feature. If your base has a teleportation device, you can move there from anywhere on the island. To craft an object, use the blueprint you received with the artifact. You will need the following resources for construction:
Note that in order to use the teleport, the artifact must be charged with at least one unit of Solafit. If the ore is not in your inventory, you will have to return to the base on foot.
How to scare away and attract monsters:
The last function of the artifact is to scare away and attract monsters. Two corresponding blueprints for building shrines will appear in your journal. When charged with the artifact's energy, they will scare or summon hostile NPCs.
Shrine of Disgust blueprint:
After crafting the object, place six pieces of Solaphite in the shrine and charge it with artifact energy to scare all enemies away from your base.
Drawing of the Sanctuary of Attraction:
This shrine works along the lines of the blueprint you already have, where you could assemble turtle shells, batteries, and stick a katana into the object to attract strong monsters. Unlike the Reflection Sanctuary, once built, all you need to do is activate it with artifact energy. Once it's charged, mutants will start appearing nearby.
