In this guide, we will focus on the most important themes that significantly change the game, shaping the personality of the main character and changing the world around him.

Significant Choices in the Story

Let's analyze the most important moments in the story of Dragon Age: The Veilguard, trying to minimize spoilers. The decisions listed below affect companions, factions, and the course of the story. Remember, every word and action you make matters, only the impact of the choices you make varies.

Save the Mayor or Not?

Your first serious test awaits you during the quest "Crossroads of Shadows", where you find yourself in a city engulfed by the Plague, and learn that the mayor is the main culprit of this disaster. Alas, he himself is trapped, and you must decide whether to show mercy and save him or leave him to his fate. In the short term, Nev will support the act of mercy, while Harding and Bellara will condemn it, and vice versa.

But there are long-term consequences too! If you choose to leave the mayor, he will become a difficult Plague boss later in the quest "Growing Corruption". If you save the mayor, you will be able to avoid him.

Choosing between Minrathous and Treviso

At some point, Nev and Lucanis will ask you to help protect their home city - Minrathous or Treviso - from dragons. You will not be able to save both cities at the same time, so you will have to make a choice! You can choose the city that is closer to you, or support the faction you want to cooperate with - either the Shadow Dragons or the Antivan Crows.

If you decide in favor of Treviso, Minrathous will be devastated. This will lead to a decrease in the importance of the Shadow Dragons in the plot, and their trade relations will be lost. Nev will become Reinforced, changing her skills and temporarily tempting your companion choices. In addition, you will lose access to one of the quests located in Minrathous.

If you choose Minrathous, Treviso will inevitably perish. As a result, the Antivan Crows will suffer, and Lucanis will also become Reinforced and temporarily become unavailable to you. You will also lose the ability to complete one of the quests in this region.

Companion Personal Quest Finale

Each companion in Dragon Age: The Veilguard has their own personal quest line, and while the stories vary, they all end the same - you will have to choose between two radically different decisions. These choices will not affect the main storyline, but upon completion, you will be able to unlock a new costume. The options include:

Harding: Show compassion or become enraged by the Titan's memories.

Bellara: Destroy the elven artifact or give it to the Veilwalkers.

Nev: Protect Minrathous by any means necessary or seek justice.

Lucanis: Imprison the Antivan traitor or deal with him.

Davrin: Free the griffons or hand them over to the Grey Wardens.

Emmrik: Make a Lich or save Mannfred.

Taash: Follow the traditions of Rivain or the Qunari.

Decision in "The Case of the Mosaic Swan"

At the end of the quest "The Case of the Stone Swan" you will have an important choice. You can either agree to a deal with Makal Damas and Threads to eliminate Bataris, or try to find an alternative solution. If you decide to agree, Threads will help Nev in further quests against the Venatori, however, in this case, at the end of her personal quest, you will lose the ability to influence her decisions, and she will choose the aggressive option. If you refuse the deal, you will have the opportunity to change Nev's mind at the end.

Possible romance between Nev and Lucanis

Dragon Age: The Veilguard features romance options (we think you should check out our guide). You will have the opportunity to flirt with each companion, but ultimately you will have to choose one or be left without a partner. You cannot date multiple characters at the same time, but there is an interesting possibility: if you do not romance Lucanis or Nev, Lucanis will one day ask Nev out on a date with your prior consent. As a result, Nev and Lucanis may become a couple.

Faction selection

Aside from the choice between Treviso and Minrathous, there are no other decisions in the game that require you to choose one faction over the other. Each faction has its own quest chains to increase reputation. On the global map, you can see the current level of faction approval by clicking on the corresponding region.

While not all quests in the Grey Wardens region will increase their reputation, other factions will respond to some. For example, the Grey Wardens favor missions to protect the innocent, while adventurers from the Lords of Fortune guild favor dragon hunting and treasure hunting. After completing all the quests, you can raise your relations with each faction to the maximum (except for choosing to save Treviso, (as this will significantly reduce the reputation of the Shadow Dragons). Make sure that each faction has at least two levels of approval before the final battle.

Conclusion: Where your choices will lead

Once you pass the critical point, key decisions about the distribution of duties among companions await, and an incompetent companion may meet his death. You can learn more about all these decisions in our guide dedicated to the endings of the game.
