The best weapons in V Rising

There are 7 different types of weapons available in V Rising - 6 of them for melee and one for ranged. Each weapon type has a basic attack and two skills unique to that weapon class.

All weapon types within a "level" (e.g. bone or bronze) will give the same base increase in physical strength. This means that each weapon can be used in any combat. However, due to the attack speed, combos, and skills offered by different weapon types, some weapons can be a little more effective than others.

Our weapon rating in V Rising:

  1. Sword
  2. A spear
  3. Axes
  4. Mace
  5. Spit
  6. Blades
  7. Crossbow

We put the sword in first place thanks to its excellent damage per second (DPS) and a powerful shockwave that you can use to dodge enemy attacks. The Spear doesn't have that kind of mobility tool, but it's unmatched in taking out single targets.

Axes, mace and sickle have similar attacks that deal good damage per hit, but lose DPS to faster weapons.

Then comes the slasher, which is a fun type of weapon thanks to its camouflage skill, but its damage potential just can't be compared to other melee weapons. And closes the list with a crossbow, which is obviously useful for holding on toat a safe distance, but otherwise has two fairly mediocre abilities that don't give it the best chance of matching other weapon types in power.

As mentioned above, different types of weapons in V Rising have access to different unique skills. The lowest level base weapon types (sword, axes, mace, spear, and crossbow) only have access to basic attack, but higher level versions of these weapons will unlock additional skills.

Sword

Combo : 35% / 35% / 40%

Whirlwind : Spins and cuts nearby enemies, dealing 35% Physical Damage every 0.25s for 1.1s (8s cooldown).

Shockwave : Sends out a shockwave that deals 70% Physical damage and knocks the affected enemy into the air for 1.6 seconds. Reuse the ability to teleport to the target, dealing three hits, each hit dealing 25% physical damage (8 second cooldown).

Specialization : Vegetation

The sword is a great all-rounder, and its high attack speed makes it ideal for critical hit builds. Whirlwind is a bit lackluster, but Shockwave is a great movement skill that can help you avoid powerful attacks while your dash is on cooldown, as well as deal significant damage to the target enemy.

A spear

Combo : 40% / 40% / 50%

Thousand copies : youComplete a multiple attack, dealing 30% physical damage 8 times. Recast during effect to perform a piercing attack that deals 50% Physical damage and knocks enemies back (8 second cooldown).

Harpoon : Throw a spear that deals 70% physical damage and pulls the enemy towards you (8 second cooldown).

Specialization : Creatures

Unlike most other weapon types, the spear does not have a wide arcing hitbox. Instead, the attacks are thrusts that can pierce enemies in a line. It is a fast attacking weapon that is great for taking out a single enemy quickly with Thousand Spears and hunting down enemies with Harpoon.

Axes

Combo: 45% / 45% / 55%

Frenzy : Dash forward and hit the first enemy, dealing 100% physical damage. Enter a frenzy that increases your movement speed by 25% and increases your attack speed by 30% for 0.8 seconds on a successful hit (8 second cooldown).

X-Strike : Throw two axes in an X shape. Each hit deals 85% physical damage and slows the enemy for 1.5 seconds. Hitting an enemy at the intersection of both axes causes incapacitation for 2 seconds (recovery time - 8 seconds).

Specialization : Wood

Axes act likethat's a cross between a sword and a mace, offering reasonable damage and reasonable attack speed. His skills are very powerful: Frenzy offers an extra charge and attack speed boost for a short duration, and X-Strike gives you the ability to turn off mid-range attack for troublesome enemies.

Mace

Combo : 50% / 50% / 60%

Crushing Strike : Jump towards the cursor and slam the mace on the ground, dealing 110% physical damage and inflicting a slow for 2 seconds (8 second cooldown).

Slap : Slam enemies in front of you, dealing 50% physical damage, knocking them back and incapacitating them for 1.2 seconds (cooldown 9 seconds).

Specialization : Mining

The mace hits harder than any other weapon in V Rising. He's slow, so his DPS is actually quite low, but the damage per hit is very impressive. Crushing Strike is great for closing the gap and deals a lot of area damage, while Strike does the opposite, increasing the distance between you and the enemy.

Spit

Combo : 50% / 50% / 55%

Hamstring Strike : Swing your reaper, dealing 125% physical damage to nearby enemies, knocking them back and inflicting a decaying trap for 2 seconds (8 second cooldown).

Howling Reaper : Throws a Howling Reaper that spins in place and deals 20% Physical Damage every 0.25s for 2.5 s The first hit of the projectile slows enemies for 1.5 seconds (cooldown - 8 seconds).

Specialization : No

The Reaper is another powerful but slow to use melee weapon. It lacks the gap-closing ability of the Mace, but its Sinew Slam deals a whopping 125% physical damage per attack, which immediately makes the Reaper a lot stronger than it looks. I'm less concerned about the Howling Reaper skill, which in my experience is pretty random.

Blades

Combo : 27.5% / 27.5% / 35%

Elusive Strike : Dash forward and backward, slashing enemies, dealing 60% physical damage and slowing for 2 seconds on each hit (8 second cooldown).

Camouflage : Enters a state of disguise, increasing movement speed by 25% for 6 seconds. Your next basic attack deals 80% physical damage and incapacitates the enemy for 3 seconds. Using any skill removes disguise (10 second cooldown).

Specialization : no

The Slasher is a fast weapon that deals low damage per attack but gives you a lot of utility with two skills. Elusive Strike is great for dodging attacks while dealing damage, and Camouflage is a great skill to use in any situation, especially for those who like to sneak up on their enemies.

Crossbow

Combo : 110%

D?Wait for the Bolts : Fire a volley of 5 bolts into the air that rain down on your enemies, dealing 40% physical damage to everyone in an area and inflicting a slow for 1.5 seconds (8 second cooldown).

Snapshot : Fire a fast arrow that deals 75% damage, interrupts spells, and applies a decaying slow for 2 seconds (8 second cooldown).

Specialization : No

The crossbow gives you a special ranged weapon that fires powerful bolts at a fairly low speed. There is no attack combo here, just good old fire-reload-fire mechanics. Snapshot's interrupt effect is situationally useful against strong enemies (and in PvP), while Rain Of Bolts does fairly mediocre damage over a wide area.

Weapon Damage

All weapons in V Rising deal damage in a three-hit combo. Each attack in a combo deals a certain percentage of your physical power as damage, and each weapon type also has a slightly different attack speed.

Below you can find a table of damage profiles for each weapon type, including combo attack damage, the time it takes to complete a combo, and the average damage per second for each weapon.

List of weapons (name / combo / attack speed per combo / damage per second:

  • Sword 35% / 35% / 40%1 , 39 sec / 79 , 14%
