Few people know, but approximately halfway through Ashen, you can unlock a special mode that makes the game much more difficult.
It's about the "Children of Sissna" mode. Finish off the third boss of the game, then unlock the teleportation ability (by throwing spears). Activate this mode, which will reduce the stocks of health and stamina points. By selecting this mode, you will start a new file with increased complexity. Please note that this is not New Game+!
With the exception of the above changes, the Children of Sissna mode is otherwise similar to the standard difficulty. The main plot points are the same, but the ending is different.
