Layers of Fear Story

Many players who have gone through the insane horror of Layers of Fear and have not figured out some issues are interested in what the idea of the authors of the game was.

And indeed, what is the meaning of the plot, because it was the emphasis of the developers on it. This article provides only a theoretical presentation of the plot. Let's try to figure out everything that is happening together with Deadpool!

Just a warning: there will be spoilers. And if you don’t want to know about some points in advance, then it’s better not to read this article or read it, but after completing the passage of Layers of Fear .

When I played the game for the first time, I did not pay much attention to the notes, drawings and other "trash" that the whole house was strewn with. But it became a big mistake, which I realized when I played it again. Studying the notes, one by one, my ideas of this small and sometimes even frightening world have changed. A more appropriate word would not even be “frightening”, but “crazy”, because this is exactly what the creators wanted to make it. They made it!

The first thing that comes to mind about the main character: a complete psycho who thought only about himself and his paintings, thereby turning away both his wife and daughter from himself. He yelled at his wife, swore, drank, raged, did everything he did not allow himself at the beginning of their married life ... It is enough to read a note about how happy he was when he found out about his wife's pregnancy. But everything changed very quickly when all the critics of the country fell upon him, recognizing that as an artist he had completely exhausted himself.

But if you have been attentive, studied every detail, then you will agree with my other assumption. Perhaps the artist wanted to turn his wife, disfigured by the fire, into something beautiful, to make her the way she was before the fire? And while he was doing this, he was completely consumed by madness. Think, whose blood and skin did he cut off to create the picture? My? Or wives? And the eye? If you were attentive, then in the bathroom, after you found an eye in a jar, you looked in the mirror. The main character is safe and sound, both eyes are in place. Doesn't that scare you?

It may not have been his wife who provided the organs for the painting. He was insanely obsessed with rats. It seemed to him that they wanted to eat his paintings, prosthesis, brushes, etc. But his wife did not see a single rat, the health service refused to come because of his rude and harsh letters. Therefore, he decided to burn them, but did not notice that his wife was in the same place. Thus, he himself disfigured her, after which he went mad. Again, this is not a 100% theory.

All these theories were in my head until the last playthrough of the game, where I read EVERYTHING I could. At first the wife was sad, but then she became cruel. She admits this in one of her notes! “He thinks I'm a monster. Then I will be like that." And what is worth only her prayer, where she asks the Lord to kill her husband?

And the artist, how is he shown to us? In one of the rooms, on the wall, you can find the inscription: DON'T TURN BACK (do not turn back). Our hero claims that he will cherish and care for his wife, love her forever. She will never see the letter he wrote to her.

The plot theory is that the wife committed suicide in the bathroom by cutting her wrists. The husband then slowly begins to go crazy. Perhaps this is due to lead in the paint (a poisonous substance). Maybe it's because he's trying to bring back the old days when critics admired his art, but he can't do it because he still loves her. How does it interfere? If you got the first ending (didn't collect all the memories in the album), you will see that, in the end, he will draw a portrait of his wife. Literally for a few seconds, he will be glad that he succeeded, when suddenly his wife turns into a monster right in the picture and laughs at him. After that, you will see that the entire back room is filled with paintings of his wife.

And now attention! The artist loved his "old" wife as she was before. And every time he saw her after the fire, he wanted to fix everything. He forgot about his picture, his desire was something else.

The wife, unable to cope, kills herself. The heartbroken husband believes that he must perpetuate his beauty before it's too late. The best way to do this: use your wife's pieces. Thus, he takes her corpse and dismembers it: he boils the bone, sucks out the blood, and throughout the night draws a beautiful portrait of the wife he once loved and considered visually the most beautiful. On the other hand, talking about how he sucks blood, he makes it clear that this is his red liquid. At the end of the game, we see that all our work is nullified by a completely disgusting portrait.

The artist is trying to bring back the past, his bright and carefree life. In one of the notes, the artist's lawyer states that they can say in court that he had a moment of insanity, after which it will be possible to take his daughter back without any problems.
