Fallout 76 lacks crossplay: PC users only play with those who also use the platform, and similarly for other systems. However, Todd Howard, head of Bethesda Game Studios, has confirmed that the team is considering implementing crossplay.
Howard cites technical hurdles as the main reason for the delay. Different versions of Fallout 76 function on different server clusters, making it difficult to implement crossplay.
According to the developer, at the moment the priority for the team is cross-progression, that is, the ability to continue playing the same character on other platforms, rather than crossplay. The possibility of cross-progression in Fallout 76 is also not yet realized, but it is being worked on.
Howard did not specify the timeframe it will take to implement crossplay and cross-progression in Fallout 76. The game will be six years old by 2024, but there is no guarantee that such features will be available by that date.
