Stray became the most played game on Steam following controversy surrounding the use of unpaid volunteers to work on The Day Before .
Early last month, BlueTwelve Studio announced a release date for the highly anticipated cyberpunk adventure about a wandering cat. According to PCGamesN, "a highly anticipated game" is no understatement, as Stray recently became the top most wanted game on Steam.
Aside from the simple fact that people love Stray, there may be another reason why the title managed to overtake The Day Before. The Day Before, being developed remotely by Singapore-headquartered Fntastic, looks like a cross between The Division and Day Z.
Recently, the release of The Day Before was pushed back to 2023 due to the fact that the developers decided to create it on the Unreal Engine 5. According to Eurogamer, unpaid volunteers help the studio with the development of The Day Before.
Fnstastic explains that "the word 'volunteer' comes from the Latin word 'voluntarius' meaning 'will' or 'of one's own choice'." Fntastic also explained that it hired the Propnight localization team last year, but stated that "the result of their work was far from ideal." And, in turn, "most of it had to be redone with the help of enthusiastic volunteers."
