Bandai Namco, the publisher behind several of the gaming industry's most popular and longest running franchises, has been hacked by a ransomware group called Alphv, also known as BlackCat. Other publishers and developers have been targeted by this group in the past. The amount of damage is currently unknown.
The news comes from the Vx-Underground security group, which maintains "the largest collection of malware source code, samples, and documents on the Internet." Vx-Underground posted a screenshot of Alphv's website, with Bandai Namco next to Coming Soon. Bandai Namco itself does not comment on the situation.
Vx-Underground was one of the first to learn about a similar attack on Nvidia that occurred in March last year. Then the hackers demanded the following:
