The Game Informer portal obtained information from the developers of Dead Island 2 , who were involved in the initial version of the project. According to the information received, the sequel was to be called Dead World, and its events could unfold in the open spaces of California.
First of all, the Techland studio was engaged in the game, which wanted to move away from the concept of the first part and create something new. But then the project went into the hands of Yager Development, which, according to the idea of the publisher, was supposed to turn the story adventure into a multiplayer one, designed for a group of 8 people. But, since the game received an extremely modest budget, and the number of people who worked on it was constantly decreasing, over time the title was again sent for processing.
In the end, we got what we got. Although it is not certain that the original concept would have turned out the same as the release version of Dead Island 2.
