From court documents related to the Federal Trade Commission's lawsuit against Microsoft, it became known that the corporation is already thinking about releasing a new Xbox gaming console, and it is quite possible that it will replace the current Xbox Series X/S in 5 years.
The data comes courtesy of documents found by Axios that provide insight into Microsoft's long-term business plans. While the early years of the current console generation have been marred by hardware shortages, game delays and other fallout from the COVID-19 pandemic, Microsoft has no plans to extend the release cycle of next-gen consoles.
At one of the meetings in 2022, one of Microsoft's vice presidents, Anuj Gosalia, mentioned plans to release the console in 2028. His words confirm that this idea has already been discussed before.
Vice President of Gaming Ecosystems Kevin Gammill noted that the company needs to be more flexible in the next generation, while providing video game developers with some unique hardware capabilities.
For reference : the ninth generation of consoles (Xbox Series X/S and PlayStation 5), released in 2020, is currently considered current.
