The decision is allegedly due to security measures.
Battlefield 1, Battlefield V and Star Wars: Battlefront 2 are ending support on Windows 7 and Windows 8

Electronic Arts has announced that support for Battlefield 1, Battlefield V and Star Wars: Battlefront 2 on Windows 7 and Windows 8 will be discontinued. Starting November 30, users with these systems will no longer receive guarantees from the publisher in terms of client functionality on their platforms.

EA recommends that PC users upgrade to the more current 10th or the still damp 11th version of the operating system. This is due to the fact that Microsoft stopped releasing patches for the 7th and 8th versions of the OS at the beginning of 2023, so they are now considered extremely vulnerable to hacking. That is, the games will work, but, apparently, not very stably.

Decide for yourself how rational this step is from the publisher’s point of view.
