DC Studios head James Gunn has confirmed via social media that Matt Reeves' upcoming Arkham Asylum spin-off of The Batman will be included in the revamped DC Cinematic Universe.
It's interesting to note that the original film and the upcoming sequel starring Robert Pattinson will not be part of the new DC Universe and will be part of the so-called DC Elseworlds. Gunn stressed that the Arkham Asylum show was always intended to be part of the DC Universe.
Gunn also confirmed that Reeves is currently only focused on the Arkham spin-off and the Batman sequel, but he will be working on other projects in the future, both within the new DC cinematic universe and beyond.
At the end of 2022, it became known that the director of the spin-off about Arkham would be Antonio Campos, the famous creator of “The Devil is Always Here” and the mini-series “The Staircase” starring Colin Firth and Toni Collette.
Matt Reeves previously described the Arkham series as "a horror movie or a haunted house."
