Screenwriter and writer Robert Kirkman, known for the animated series Invincible, based on his own comic book, has expressed interest in creating an animated version of The Walking Dead.
Kirkman emphasized that first he needs to regain the rights to the universe, which are currently owned by the AMC television channel. These rights include the ability to create animated projects.
Amanda LaFranco, the editor of "The Walking Dead" who is working with Kirkman, noted that attempts to create an animated adaptation have already been made, but have not been successful. AMC representatives have not yet expressed interest in creating such an animated show.
