Another Game of Thrones spin-off has gone into development

HBO Channel is indeed working on a Game of Thrones prequel centered on Aegon the Conqueror. Rumors about the project surfaced in the spring of 2023, and now screenwriter Mattson Tomlin has confirmed the information.

The project is in the early stages of development. According to Tomlin, he is actively working on the script and regularly meets with George R. R. Martin, the creator of A Song of Ice and Flame. The script is based on the book Flame and Blood, which tells the story of the Targaryen dynasty. Tomlin treats the book, which is in the form of a historical work, with appropriate caution.

According to Tomlin, working on a project about Aegon the Conqueror is similar to creating a story about Alexander the Great. Much is known about Aegon's life journey, but details remain unclear.

Tomlin cannot say how long it will take to write the script. Completion of the script does not mean the immediate start of filming: HBO will evaluate the work and decide whether to put the Aegon series into production.
