Xbox head Phil Spencer has explained why Doom: The Dark Ages will be coming to PlayStation 5. During an interview with IGN, Spencer said that Doom is a franchise with a long history on various platforms and he believes that everyone should try the game. According to Spencer, when he met with id Software studio director Marty Stratton a couple years ago, the latter expressed his desire to release the game on all available platforms. This was the main reason behind the decision to release Doom: The Dark Ages multiplatform.
The game was previously officially unveiled at yesterday's Xbox Showcase, where they also confirmed its release on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S and PC. This confirms the information that Doom: The Dark Ages is part of an Xbox program called Project Latitude, which aims to release first-person games on competing consoles.
As for Doom: The Dark Ages itself, it's a prequel in the Doom universe, set in a dark fantasy setting of the Middle Ages. Players will take on the role of a powerful Slayer and battle hordes of demons against the backdrop of an epic, cinematic tale of gods, kings and monsters. The game is scheduled for release in 2025.
