In an interview with M.Video, Reinhard Polliche, Head of Business Development at THQ Nordic and Alkimia Interactive, and Community Manager Timur Khodyrev revealed details about the Gothic remake. The team shared information about how the project will differ from the original, especially in terms of the plot and gameplay mechanics.
While the atmosphere and main story of the 2001 game will be preserved, the plot will undergo changes aimed at eliminating plot holes present in the original version from Piranha Bytes. The developers turned to the archives of the original development and found ideas that were not implemented in the first game, and now plan to implement them in the remake.
The team also worked to eliminate inconsistencies between the first game and its sequel to make the transition between them more logical. In the remake, the world of Gothic is 30% larger than the original. The camps will remain familiar to fans, but they will be more spacious and realistic.
In addition, the remake will offer expanded mechanics, including alchemy, hunting, and cooking. The combat system will be updated and modernized, although it will retain the spirit of the original. Players can also expect a large number of side quests added to the second half of the game to make the passage more exciting.
The developers confirmed that the remake will be fully localized into Russian, and they will try to bring back the original voice actors. The release date of the project has not yet been announced, but on August 2, THQ Nordic showed the gameplay of the Gothic remake for the first time.
