Russia to conduct test to shut down foreign internet

Roskomnadzor, as reported by the Central Bank of the country, intends to conduct these tests in some regions in order to check how the Russian Internet (Runet) functions in conditions of complete isolation from international networks.

Such exercises are not news, since similar events were already held in July 2023. Then Roskomnadzor reported that the tests of domestic sites were successful, but some vulnerabilities were discovered that were quickly eliminated.

The Central Bank of Russia also reported that companies dependent on a stable connection to the international Internet do not need to worry. Roskomnadzor will consider applications to ensure uninterrupted communication for certain users who need such a service.
