Horizon Forbidden West will have only one ending, but with a few nuances

From the looks of it, player choice will matter more in the sequel than it did in Horizon Zero Dawn.
Horizon Forbidden West will have only one ending, but with a few nuances

Studio Guerrilla has officially confirmed that the upcoming action game Horizon Forbidden West , like the original game, contains only one ending.

While the sequel has some RPG elements and a skill tree, Forbidden West isn't a full RPG. This is a predominantly story-driven open-world adventure. Given that the sequel focuses on minor characters, including characters from the original like Erend, it looks like some of the decisions you make may affect their fate.

Narrative designer Benjamin McCaw spoke about the game's ending during a recent interview with Everyeye. He stated that players should not expect multiple endings:

Let's be clear: there is only one ending in Forbidden West, which is very strong and impressive, but some of the nuances may change depending on whether we paid attention to certain characters. Also, on a few occasions you will be faced with strong moral choices that will have consequences.

It looks like players will have some control over the story. McCoy also emphasized that the studio "wanted to make the missions more meaningful, the optional adventures more intense, and the relationships with secondary characters more in-depth." Despite the importance of secondary characters, you will not be able to choose who will accompany Aloy on missions.

A single canonical ending makes it easier for the writers to continue the overall narrative. At the moment, Guerrilla is in no hurry to say whether the story will end with Aloy in Forbidden West or if we are waiting for another sequel.
