Devil May Cry 5 review

Crazy continuation of the long-awaited title...

The thing we've all been waiting for happened: Eleven years later, the legendary demon hunter, Dante, has returned. Yes, yes, we remember that in 2013 the series was restarted. However, Capcom recognized this step as unsuccessful, as evidenced by the release of the fifth part of Devil May Cry, which is a direct continuation of the fourth title.

Due to the restart of the series, many fans began to get nervous, believing that we would not see Dante in the classic image again. As they say, it worked! So, a return to the origins of the series for Capcom benefited. But let's talk about everything in order.

The game takes place in a demon-ridden Red Grave City. The same city where the parents of Dante and Virgil lived. Dante, his nephew Nero and the mysterious V will try to stop the insidious plans of the demon lord Urizen, who appeared from nowhere at all. In the prologue of the game, we see how this trinity is trying to take the demonic tree of Qliphoth with a bang and destroy Urizen. It turns out they have, to put it mildly, not very much.

For the first time in the series, Nero is a playable character. In many ways, Devil May Cry 5 is a game that is all about Nero growing up. Recall that as a result of the events of Devil May Cry 4, he lost his right hand. Fusing with the Yamato once owned by his father Vergil, Nero gains a demonic hand. However, an unknown demon takes her away as well. Nero believes that Urizen did it.

There is no time to grieve, especially when there is such a fighting friend as Niko nearby. The girl, who is the granddaughter of the gunsmith who created the Abony and Ivory pistols for Dante, is engaged in the same craft. And it is she who invents a mechanical arm for Nero. The prosthesis is called the Devil's Scourge, and each time Niko will pamper you with new specimens with unique properties and skills.

These abilities range from built-in homing missiles to slowing time or healing Nero. But regardless of the selected prosthesis, you can use the target lock function: click on the mouse wheel to drag againstnick, and attack him. However, if the demon is too massive, then Nero himself will fly up to him instead.

The downside to using Devil Breakers is that you can't choose which hand to use. To switch to the next, you have to lose the current one. This will happen if you are attacked by demons, or you discard your hand to self-destruct it.

In addition to the Devil Scourge, Nero uses his usual arsenal - the Scarlet Queen sword and the Blue Rose revolver. By the way, the sword can be charged using an accelerator that significantly increases damage. There are dozens of different moves, moves, and combos that you can unlock across all weapons, including different prosthetic models. Nero is a versatile character, strong in both melee and ranged combat.

But the most interesting awaits you at the end of the game. Complete it at least once and, as a result of an unexpected and amazing imagination of the plot twist, Nero will acquire completely different abilities, becoming much stronger and more dangerous. We will not break the intrigue, but you will see everything afterhow we will release a full walkthrough of the game on our channel.

We turn to the consideration of another character - the mysterious dark-haired guy V. The first thing that catches your eye is the uniqueness of the character for any slasher game in general. V has health problems, his physical strength has long since left him, and he is unable to attack enemies on his own. Instead, V will use three demons throughout the game. Shadow in the form of a black panther fights in close combat, Griffin makes long-range attacks, and Nightmare (a giant one-eyed golem) is summoned for a while, consumes demonic energy and attacks enemies automatically.

Devil May Cry 5

V is an exciting character that you will enjoy playing as. In battle, you control only his movements, but by pressing LMB and RMB, you give orders to Shadow and Griffin, respectively, to attack the desired target. The main goal when controlling V is to stay away from enemies and avoid damage.

If you want to focus on managing one daemon, you can set the second daemon to auto-manage. For this it will be necessaryspend part of the demon's scale, while this effect will last for a limited time. Or you can set both demons to automatic mode to focus on controlling V. By reading the book right during the battle, you can regenerate energy and fill the demon gauge. If you're wondering what exactly Vee is reading, it's the poetry of William Blake. So, imagine: the height of the battle, in the background a black panther and a Griffin are beating up your opponents, and V, as if nothing had happened, walks slowly and confidently around the location, reading a book.

Once you have three full spaces on the Demon Track, you can summon the Nightmare. A huge golem will destroy everything that it sees in its path. By purchasing an upgrade, you can even ride it. And this is not just done to keep V safe: being on the shoulder of the golem, he can completely control its movement and attacks.

Despite his physical weakness, V is the easiest character in the game. You can easily gain a high rating. And this applies to almost anyout of complexity.

Finally, to bring some clarity to the story, we will tell you how V appeared in the first place. A couple of weeks before the Demon Lord Urizen's invasion, V came to Dante along with Morrison. It all started as an ordinary job that required the destruction of one very dangerous and powerful demon. And V, acting as an employer, decided to go with Dante.

Let's move on to the legendary Dante. Playing as Nero and V is really fun and easy, but Dante is a different story. This is a completely different level. It has a very wide combat functionality that Capcom could break into several parts and create a number of separate titles. When you play through the game for the first time, you will discover something new literally after each level in which Dante participated. And just when you think you've seen everything you can, Niko will hand Dante a cowboy hat that shoots red orbs. But this is not the end!

Dante's main weapons are two Ebony and Ivory revolvers and the "Rebel" sword, inherited from his own father, the demon Sparda. And so that you don’t get bored, you can always switch to a shotgun, rocket launcher, nunchucks, a demonic motorcycle that splits in two, Barlog armor. If one rocket launcher is not enough for you, then towards the end of the game, Dante will pick up two at once! And in order to be completely pro?Starting the Barlog armor, learning all the tricks and starting to use them correctly, one complete passage of the game can take.

Despite such a stunning arsenal, no one forces you to learn everything at once. If you like to fight with swords, then use the Rebel by activating the Blade Master style. Love to fight in the style of kung fu - equip Barlog's armor and activate the "Deceiver" mode. In total, Dante has four separate modes - Blademaster, Deceiver, Guardsman and Marksman. The first is associated with the use of the sword, the second - with constant evasions, the third - with increased protection and timely counterattacks, the last - with the use of firearms.

Dante also has his own demonic form, which requires a purple bar to activate and use. Turning into a demon, he gains a new set of moves, techniques and combos. As if everything before was not enough. Then Dante will discover another demon in himself, a stronger one. This is a spoiler, but we want to emphasize once again how strong Capcom's desire was to make a game, in ko?Or you will experiment a lot and enjoy it.

The plot of the game as such is not taken seriously. The characters now and then tease each other, and even more often - the demonic creatures that they encounter throughout the game. However, as soon as the battle begins, it becomes no time for jokes.

At first, the level design may seem strange. They look very simple, and most are short and linear. There are a few secrets you can find in their back alleys, but for the most part each chapter is a corridor leading you to the arena where the boss fight will take place. And along the way, you will have to destroy several dozen (or even a hundred) demons.

Devil May Cry 5

Devil May Cry 5 is the most striking example of how to make replayable projects. The game was not created in order to be able to go through it in one breath from start to finish, and then put it on the shelf. Like Capcom's brilliant remake of Resident Evil 2, the project requires an old-school approach. With each replay, the game throws you a new challenge, increasing the difficulty, but at the same timebut retaining all those abilities that you learned at the time of the first and all subsequent playthroughs. You will constantly improve and learn something new.

The first playthrough should be regarded as a preface, a prologue that explains the basic mechanics to you and allows you to unlock only a small part of the new abilities needed to solve the main tasks. This is evidenced by the fact that towards the end of the game, both Dante and Nero receive a completely different power, providing access to other abilities. How do you explain the fact that Nero awakens his strength only in the last chapter? There can be only one answer: in order to arouse interest among players in replaying the game.

No matter how hard we tried, we simply could not find any obvious shortcomings in the game. She was too long-awaited and desired. Finally, we want to remind you that Capcom does not plan to stop there. We are waiting for several additions at once, including story ones. And the first free update will add a multi-level arena mode called the "Bloody Palace" to the game. Devil May Cry 5 is stylish and crazy cool. We wish all the happy owners of this title to thoroughly have fun!
