Willy Morgan and the Curse of Bone Town Preview

Willy Morgan and the Curse of Bone Town is a classic point-&-click adventure game developed by Italian specialists from Imaginarylab and published by VLG Publishing

The developers do not hide the fact that when creating their adventure, they were inspired by such humorous quests as Monkey Island. Like the timeless classics, Willy Morgan and the Curse of Bone Town contains a lot of funny dialogue, and the story is connected to modern-day pirates.

We were lucky enough to play the beta game, which was about one third of the full version. If you're lucky, the quest will appear on PC in August, and a little later it will look on the current generation consoles. I note that in this article I tried to avoid any spoilers.

Gameplay

You play as a young guy named Willy Morgan, who is trying to uncover the story of the mysterious disappearance of his own father, a famous archaeologist who disappeared 10 years ago. On this journey, he is pushed by a letter that unexpectedly flew into the slot of the door. This is how the plot starts, as a result of which we go to Bone Town - a quaint village in a pirate setting, where there are many funny characters, in conversation and interaction with which Willy will be able to learn something about histse.

Willy Morgan and the Curse of Bone Town will offer you an almost open world. As open as it can be in classic quests. You will be able to move freely (albeit not immediately) around the village, exploring each location in the order you see fit. The task is simplified by the fact that after finding any point of interest, you can move to it using the map located in Willy's inventory.

As in any pint-and-click adventure, to progress you will have to look for touchpoints, apply, combine, study objects and solve puzzles. Willy Morgan and the Curse of Bone Island has a lot of humorous dialogue in which you can choose different answers. And all this in the final version of the game will have full voice acting. As I wrote above, there are many parallels with Monkey Island.

When solving puzzles, it seemed to me that many of them are quite linear. Either I'm lucky, or I'm really so experienced in quests and after Simon the Sorcerer in 1994 nothing will surprise me. Each item you find is needed to one degree or anotherfrom the encountered NPCs. And if you carefully read Willy's dialogues or monologues, you will definitely see hints of their use there. However, there will be some difficult moments that will make you think twice.

In the early point-and-click adventure games, you had to move your mouse across the screen to find every object you could interact with. And if the hit box of such an item is small, then this constantly led to the fact that we simply did not notice some small, but important objects. In the case of Willy Morgan and the Curse of Bone Town, the task is greatly simplified: you can click on the icon in the upper left corner of the screen or hold down (I think "Space") the corresponding key, and icons will appear on the screen indicating interactive items. But if you wish, you can simply not use this function.

The artwork for Willy Morgan and the Curse of Bone Town is influenced by Lucas Art's cartoon creations, and the overall atmosphere evokes a very warm, nostalgic feeling. The game literally grabbed me in its arms: until the beta was fully completed, I never got up from my?About armchairs.

Graphics and soundtrack

Graphically, Willy Morgan and the Curse of Bone Town looks like a solid quest with full HD support. This is a great option for owners of not so powerful PCs. The unique graphic style is designed to create a magical atmosphere. And he is quite good at this. Each corner of the game world is unique in its own way, everything is done in 3D format. Between certain actions, cut-scenes are triggered, trying to keep you in good shape.

The original soundtrack composed by Ascari only highlights the uniqueness of each location. As for the voice acting, as it was written above, it was not in the preliminary version of the game.

Willy Morgan and the Curse of Bone Town duration

At the moment, there is no exact information about the number of hours of gameplay for Willy Morgan and the Curse of Bone Town. But I managed to complete the beta version in just 3 hours, despite the fact that I went through many moments literally on the fly. But if you do not have such a great experience in quests, you will have to rack your brains and this pleasure may drag on for another 1-2 additional hours.

Outcome

Willy Morgan and the Curse of Bone Town revived my love for Point-and-click quests. I really liked the beta of the game (and this even despite the lack of voice acting), the construction of the plot. This adventure literally forced me to keep going until I got all the answers. The latter, unfortunately, could not be done, so we will have to wait for the release of the full version of the game. Despite the lack of collectibles, there are a lot of easter eggs here, especially in the works of Marvel (Captain America's shield, Thor's Hammer, and so on). And on the door of Willy's bedroom you can see the Day of the Tentacle poster. That is, Easter eggs that will be of interest to fans of the point-and-click direction.

If you like mystery adventures, and even if you last played point-and-click adventures as a child, Willy Morgan and the Curse of Bone Town should definitely be on your Steam wishlist. Looking forward to the full version, but in the meantime, you can all check out the free demo.
