Think beyond gold. There are three other things to watch out for: prestige, piety, and fame.

PRESTIGE

PIETY

Basically, the more living members you have, the more fame you'll get over time - and the higher up the food chain those members are, the better. Try to establish your relationship within other kingdoms, either as the rulers themselves or as the spouses of the rulers.

Wars must be fast

Raising an army is an expensive pleasure, and feeding and watering it while on the march is even more expensive. Better to complete it as soon as possible. Come up with a plan ahead of time to cause maximum damage, and if things go wrong, sue for peace as quickly as possible.

To declare war you first need a reason- casus belli. As soon as the troops start marching, you can mark the progress of the war in the lower right corner. Click on the shield of the house you are fighting and a new menu will open that tracks the progress of the conflict. The goal is to get your war score up to 100.
