Metro Exodus: Sam's Story Guide - Secrets, Improvements, and Mods

We tell you how to get the achievements "Owl" and "Lord of War"

After you get acquainted with the "owner" of the submarine - Tom, then visit his gunsmith and get a special detector. With this device, you can find not only mines (which the gunsmith warns about), but also useful items and improvements. Such items are divided into two types: armor mods and weapon upgrades. In this guide, we will tell you where to find all the caches with secrets.

Armor Upgrades

  1. You can find the first secret right after you leave the submarine. Head to the pool building and go up to the second floor. Go into the room with the pool itself and go down the wooden boards to the trampolines. Follow the flooded room and climb the stairs up. This way you will find yourself in a locked room with an armor upgrade ( Throwing Harness ).
  2. Once in a multi-story building (large cross on the map), climb out of the basement to the third floor and go to the locked red door. To the left of it is an open door to the apartment. Enter there and find another passage through the door. This will lead you to a room with a workbench, and you will also find an exit to the balcony. Walk on baMove to the far door and interact with it to get Sam to kick the door. In this room on the left you will see a shelf with glass jars that you need to break. Do this and pick up an improvement for the flashlight ( Battery charge controller ).
  3. The next modification is at the Captain's base. After a lengthy cut-scenes, go down the stairs and find the floor where you need to install the third tripwire (a white cross with the number "3"). From this place, run forward along the corridor and turn left. In the second room against the wall you will see a painting. Shoot her, then interact with the closet to clear the passage. The next room contains a helmet upgrade ( Reinforced Helmet ).
  4. When you first enter the Ruins, look for a three-story building in the center of the location. On the third floor, there is a door that leads to Kota's scouts. Go inside and take the armor upgrade ( Ammo Pouches ).
  5. You need to get to the island, which is located opposite this same building with scouts and on the right side of the "police". This can be done both on a boat and on an impromptu bridge. Enter the one-story building and kill all the mutants. In one of the rooms on the wall you will see a picture of a mutant in night vision. To the left of the picture there is a table under which you can crawl. Do it and take the upgrade ( NVD Amplifier ).
  6. After you fight the Demon a second time and go through the minefield, you will find yourself in a two-story building. Follow forward until you reach the hangar. To the right of the hangar you will see a small building with a sniper on the roof. Get rid of the enemy and enter the first floor. There is a locked door and three switches. You need to activate the switches in a certain sequence to open the door to the warehouse: third, first, second. Having done this, in the opened room, take an improvement for armor ( Cargo vest for equipment ).
  7. Another upgrade can be found under the Fire Station's dock. When you leave the boat, do not rush to go upstairs. Examine the dock to find a pipe that you can crawl through. In the underground storage you will find an upgrade for the lantern ( High-Bright Lantern ).
  8. According to the plot, you will find yourself in a submarine bunker. Immediately at the beginning of the bunker, in the second room, inspect all the lockers. In one of them you will find an upgrade for a helmet ( Armored Glass ).

Weapon Mods

  1. You will find the first improvement for the assault rifle in the same place whereand a new piece of armor - in a secret room, in the pool building. How to get there, we described above.
  2. The second upgrade for the assault rifle can be found in the school building, in the room with the workbench.
  3. After school, go to the cinema. Follow the path up and turn right. There is a small building (toilet) inside which you will find a descent into the sewers. Go to the end of the tunnel and search the corpse behind the bars (silencer for the pistol).
  4. Here, inspect the killed enemies to find upgrades for the killer. Another upgrade for the machine gun can be found in a closed room on the second floor. This room can be accessed through a window on wooden boards.
  5. When you meet the Captain in the high-rise building, you will go on a boat through the story. You will find yourself in a two-story flooded building. The passage to the right leads to a small staircase. Climb up it and turn right. Here you will see a ledge that you can climb onto, then crawl under the table (modifications for the pistol).
  6. Several weapon elements can be found at the Captain's base at once. You will find the first upgrade for the pistol in a secret room with an improved helmet (we described how to get there above). The second weapon can be found on the floor below, by the window (sniper rifle).
  7. An upgrade for a sniper rifle can be taken from a sniper who sat on the roof of a small building (where there is a locked roomnata with an unloading vest for equipment). How to get there, we described above.
  8. The next modules for the machine gun can be found in the hangar, where you need to "set fire" the mutants in the water. Next to the valve you will find a corpse in whose hands there is a machine gun with improvements.
  9. From this hangar you need to swim to the left side of the location, to a small island. Climb a pile of scrap metal to find a corpse and an enlarged magazine for a machine gun (100 rounds).
  10. The last upgrade for the sniper rifle is on the roof of the Fire Station (you will be here in the story). Do not rush to climb the metal stairs to the tower. Before that, inspect the box by the chair nearby. You'll find a lightweight stock and a five-shot box magazine.
