It is no longer possible to level up weapons in Valheim by attacking trees and rocks

The Iron Gate studio, responsible for the development and support of Valheim , removed the ability for players to level up their weapon proficiency by attacking trees and rocks.

Of course, boosting your weapon skill by attacking rocks and trees is the easiest and most convenient way, especially if you need to recover from a sudden death. After the release of a major Hearth and Home update, players discovered that now, in order to upgrade a weapon, you need to use it against a real opponent. Great news for trees and stones, bad news for gradeworves and graylings.

Interestingly, the developers did not even mention this change in the patch notes. And now gamers are having a lively discussion, arguing whether this is good or bad. Some Reddit users argue that this is a normal, natural step in the development of the game, although others argue that the harsh system of penalties in case of death should be reconsidered in this approach.
