Hasbro, the owner of the Dungeons & Dragons and Baldur's Gate franchises, is preparing to invest $1 billion in AAA games, distributing the funding among its studios working on various projects.
Some of these games will unfold in the DnD universe, while other projects will be based on new worlds or other Hasbro franchises. Among the recipients of the investment are Archetype Studios, which employs the creators of the first Mass Effect games, and Canadian Invoke Studio, which is developing a game set in the Dungeons & Dragons world.
According to Dan Ayoub, head of digital product development at Hasbro, new games in the DnD universe may have similarities with Baldur's Gate 3, but the goal is not to copy, but the features of the mechanics.
As a reminder, after Larian Studios refused to work further with DnD, all rights to Baldur's Gate 3 went to Hasbro. It is still unclear whether Hasbro plans to develop the game sequel with another studio.
