Experts from Digital Foundry analyzed the version of Hi-Fi Rush for PlayStation 5 in comparison with other platforms and concluded that it has some graphical advantages over the version for Xbox Series X, especially in terms of shadow quality.
On both consoles, most of the graphical effects look similar, but the PlayStation 5 version of Hi-Fi Rush has noticeably improved shadow quality, especially for complex objects. In the PC version of the game, the shadows are the same as those in the Xbox Series X version, confirming the developers' deliberate efforts to improve the graphics in the PlayStation 5 version.
Examining the internal settings of the PC version of Hi-Fi Rush using the Unreal Engine Unlocker tool revealed that the shadows are tuned for maximum quality, but even so, they look better on the PlayStation 5. This improvement in shadow quality on Sony's console is surprising, as Microsoft's exclusives are expected to be optimized for Xbox.
Interestingly, Hi-Fi Rush isn't the only case where Microsoft products have shown better performance on PlayStation, as was the case with Pentiment, where 120fps was available on PlayStation 5 versus 60fps on Xbox Series X, which the developers later explained as a technical error.
