Tesla has announced the discontinuation of Steam support in its new Model S and Model X electric cars. This information was confirmed by the publications Electrek and TeslaRati, as well as one of the future owners of the car, who received a corresponding notification from the manufacturer.
The report indicates that the latest update for the on-board computers of these models excluded support for games from the Steam catalog, while other entertainment features remained unchanged. The reasons for dropping Steam support have not yet been disclosed, but it is assumed that this feature may have been little demanded by users.
It is worth noting that this change does not affect Tesla electric cars that have already been purchased. Owners of older models will be able to continue to use Steam on their in-vehicle computers, as the update only affects new batches of cars.
Steam support was introduced in the Tesla Model S and Model X in 2022, when the on-board computers of these models were equipped with graphics solutions from AMD with RDNA 2 architecture.
