MercurySteam, the creator of Metroid Dread , has confirmed that it is working on a new action role-playing game with Control publisher 505 Games. It will be a completely new IP for consoles and PC. The game is currently codenamed Project Iron and billed as a new third-person title "set in a dark fantasy world".
Although not much is known about Project Iron, we know for sure that we are talking about a completely new intellectual property, that is, the game will not be part of some established franchise, spin-off, sequel or prequel to anything. In addition, this IP will be jointly owned by MercurySteam and 505 Games. The initial investment in the project is about $30 million.
Raffi and Rami Galante, CEOs of Digital Bros. Group, stated the following:
We are thrilled to be partnering with MercurySteam, a proven studio that has created many phenomenal IPs over the years, including the recent hit Metroid Dread in partnership with Nintendo.
MercurySteam was founded in 2002. She has such classics as Castlevania: Lords of Shadow from 2010. As for 505 Games, the publisher recently announced the development of a PVE project, codenamed Condor , which is being created with Remedy Entertainment. The game will be related to the universe of Control and Alan Wake.
