Blue Beetle director Angel Manuel Soto will helm the highly anticipated film adaptation of Just Cause, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Previously, Michael Downes (Muffled Away) had been working on the project since 2010, but he stepped down as director.
Universal Pictures will produce the film, the rights to which were previously held by Constantin Film. The producers include Kelly McCormick and David Litch (Nobody, Stuntmen), as well as the team that worked on the Tomb Raider and Sonic the Hedgehog adaptations.
No details on the plot or cast are yet available. No release date has been announced either, the project is in the early stages of production.
The idea to screen Just Cause appeared back in 2010. The latest installment in the series, Just Cause 4, was released in 2018. In 2022 Square Enix announced the development of a new game, but there are no details about it yet.
