CI Games has officially announced the renaming of its internal studio responsible for the development of the Sniper Ghost Warrior series. The team will now be called Underdog Studio. With the release of Sniper Ghost Warrior Contracts 2 , the fifth game in the popular series, this year has been the most successful year in the studio's history, motivating us to spin off a separate development team.
Eleven years have passed since the release of the first Sniper Ghost Warrior game, and the series continues to conquer new heights. The studio's latest game, Sniper Ghost Warrior Contracts 2, was the highest rated game in the series and performed incredibly well at launch. Digital sales of the game in the first ten days after the release were 170% more successful than the previous part.
Based on all the success achieved by the developers of the SGW series, CI Games decided to separate this small team and give the studio a separate name that will reflect the determination and enthusiasm of the developers. Over the past eleven years, the Underdog Studio team has been hard at work developing and improving the SGW series, gaining experience to create quality projects that can compete with other shooters from large and well-known studios.
Currently, the Underdog Studio team consists of 50 developers, most of whom work at the CI Games headquarters in Warsaw. This is a very well-coordinated and experienced team that has devoted many years to the Sniper Ghost Warrior franchise. Each new game in the series raised the bar of quality and received higher ratings from users and game critics. The newest game in the series, Sniper Ghost Warrior Contracts 2, received an average score of 81 (PS5) on Metacritic , with an 84% user rating for the game on Steam .
We chose to name the studio Underdog because we think it perfectly captures the determination and hard work of the development team,” says Kenton Fletcher, Lead Creative Producer, Underdog Studios. - We may not be the biggest team in the world, but we are a group of talented and creative professionals who are able to create games that are characteristic of studios “above our weight class”. We are incredibly excited to start this new chapter in the history of the studio and are ready to conquer new heights in the future.
The name change marks a new stage in the development of the studio. Underdog Studio plans to expand its international team with qualified professionals from Europe, thanks to a successful remote work system. In addition, the studio also plans to develop cooperation with developers and partners around the world. The team is currently hard at work improving the sniper project and look forward to sharing more details in the future.
