EA is well aware that Battlefield 2042 didn't live up to expectations on release, but says it's "absolutely committed" to making the shooter better.
During the Q3 2021 financial report, the publisher took the time to discuss Battlefield 2042. CEO Andrew Wilson said:
In the third quarter, there was a problem with the disappointing launch of Battlefield 2042.
According to him, all the problems of the game are related to remote work during a pandemic:
Developing this game with teams working from home for almost two years ended up being a difficult task. Through our testing and preparation processes, we believed that the experience gained was ready to fall into the hands of the players. We launched the game with confidence in its stability, however, as more gamers connected to it, it became clear that there were unforeseen performance issues that would need to be addressed. Did not find a response and some design solutions.
Despite all these issues, EA isn't ready to abandon Battlefield 2042, with Wilson hinting at big improvements "in the coming weeks." He also emphasized that the release of the first season is being delayed so that the developers can focus on fixing the main game.
He will be the last one for the game.
An incredible success for the studio's debut project.
In short, the company is aware of the problem and is solving it.
It will be an animated prequel series.
