Metal Gear franchise sales top 58 million

Total sales of all games in the Metal Gear series have exceeded 58 million copies on various consoles
Metal Gear franchise sales top 58 million

This information was confirmed in a recently published financial report on the site by Konami, which owns the rights to the franchise.

It's been 35 years since the original Metal Gear launched. The first game was released in 1987. Back in November of last year, Metal Gear Solid 2 and 3 were removed from sales due to licensing problems with materials used in games. Apparently, the problem has not been solved. But besides this, the franchise has many other titles, spin-offs and remakes. And the total sales of these games amounted to just under 60 million copies.

Remarkably, these numbers are half that of the PES franchise (112.5 million), for which the free-to-play eFootball was released last year. And this despite the fact that this franchise was launched almost 10 years after the release of the first Metal Gear.

According to insider Millie A, a remake of Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater is currently being developed, and the developers are consulting with Hideo Kojima himself.

At the moment, work continues on the film adaptation of the franchise. Jordan Vogt-Roberts is still set to direct, and Oscar Isaac is set to play Solid Snake.
