Rumor: details on the upcoming remake of the original Resident Evil

Yesterday, an insider revealed some details about the upcoming Resident Evil remake that Capcom is rumored to be preparing for release to celebrate the series' 30th anniversary in 2026.

  • The working title of the project is BIOHAZARD: RE1
  • The game will be slower compared to RE2 Remake
  • Due to the small number of enemies, each zombie will have a unique model
  • More bullets will be needed to kill zombies than in RE2 Remake.
  • Crimson Heads will return to the game.
  • RE1's storyline will be expanded
  • The third-person camera will be different, with slower paced gameplay
  • The game will get a significant improvement in visual effects and lighting

The information was additionally confirmed by another reliable insider! Well-known insider Dusk Golem, who has previously shared reliable information about Capcom projects and Resident Evil series many times, commented on the latest rumors about the development of the remake of the first Resident Evil. According to him, the rumors that Capcom is indeed working on a remake are confirmed:

I can confirm that a new remake of Resident Evil 1 is indeed in development and is scheduled for release in 2026. Some details are correct, such as the fact that the remake will be third-person,” Dusk Golem wrote.

The original Resident Evil was released in 1996 on PlayStation and received high praise from critics and players before the game was ported to PC and other platforms. A remake of the game for the GameCube was released in 2002, which was then re-released several times by Capcom for different console generations.
