Video game developer 11 bit Studios has officially announced the continuation of the city-building simulator with elements of survival in the post-nuclear world Frostpunk 2. Recall that the first part of the game was awarded a BAFTA nomination. The game already has an official page on Steam.
Frostpunk 2 is just one of three titles the studio is currently working on. In addition, right now, from August 12 to August 16, anyone can try out the first part on Steamfor free. Watch the first trailer for the game below.
In the continuation of the Frostpunk simulator, players will once again take on the role of leader of a resource-hungry metropolis, where expansion and the search for new energy sources is an inevitable reality. But this time, much more needs to be done. The discovery of oil fields after the era of coal will be the new salvation of what is left of humanity. However, change does not come easy, and not everyone in the new multi-layered society will appreciate this new direction.
Summary from the official press release :
The team that worked on the first game is constantly growing. At the moment, there are almost 70 people in it, so the continuation will also be much larger. “Now we have more opportunities to pay enough attention to all aspects of the game - from the scale and cost of production to the overall quality. Our goal is to do something more than just a sequel. We aim to offer players something that will be vastly superior to the original Frostpunk,” comments Jakob Stokalski, Project Lead for Frostpunk 2.
Jakob also shares his vision for Frostpunk 2: “Players can look forward to a wider range of options, a greater level of freedom to build their society and city however they see fit, and, of course, to reap the rewards of their decisions. Frostpunk 2 relies on the same conflicts as its predecessor: survival versus human values, life versus arctic frost. But, most importantly, it will add a new level of reflection, reflected in many aspects of the game - be it politics, society or technological progress - the conflict between people and their own nature.
Since its release in 2018, Frostpunk has become an instant hit on PC. The release of the console version the following year was also well received. Over the years, the game has received many free add-ons and three paid expansions, and its three-year anniversary sales in April 2021 exceeded three million copies.
The first part of Frostpunk will be free to play on Steam from 18:00 (UTC) today until 20:00 (UTC) on August 16th. To continue the adventure after this date, you will need to purchase the game.
