Three years have passed since the release of Far Cry 5, and now we again get a dynamic first-person shooter in an open world where you need to sow devastation and chaos. And once again, the task of the protagonist is utterly simple - you need to overthrow the tyrannical leader of the fictional state of Yara. If you like this kind of story, if the last two parts of Far Cry came to you, then you will also be delighted with Far Cry 6 . Despite the flurry of negative reviews, the game really has something to appreciate.
Take at least a moment with a huge amount of content. A lot of people criticize publishers and developers of AAA video games for putting high prices on their titles with short gameplay and insufficient end-game content. But Far Cry is a completely different story. There are many side activities and tasks here. The sixth part is another storehouse for Easter eggs and references to geek culture. Perhaps only Bethesda and Rockstar Games can compare with Ubisoft in this regard.
Let's start with the villain. I still remember Joseph, the antagonist of the fourth part, with some sadness and at the same time pride. I'm just crazy about Vaas. But Castillo. Castillo is a character who can hardly be put on a par with the listed villains.
Although here everything is not so clear. Cruelty is what Anton Castillo is guided by. There is a lot of ruthless action in the game - from massacres at the beginning to torture in prison cells. In this regard, Far Cry 6 takes violence to a new, more brutal level. Despite what I wrote above, Anton Castillo stands out from the rest of the antagonists. Because he is the most complete psychopath of the series. I have never met a tougher character. Castillo does not need reasons to execute a man, cut off his ear, tongue, cut his throat. All his aspirations are aimed at gaining complete control over Yara. Prepare the country to be ruled by his dynasty.
The link is next. We find ourselves on the fictional Caribbean island of Yara, ruled by dictator Anton Castillo. The player controls the rebel Dani Rojas. Moreover, you can choose the gender of the character, which will affect the appearance, voice acting of the hero himself and how the surrounding characters address him. As Dani, the player must free Yara from Castillo's rule while the dictator tries to manipulate his son into preparing him to rule the island.
While the open world is rife with side activities, the game sets a gritty tone from the outset that will be felt throughout the story and conveyed through numerous characters. There was some humor and NPCs spreading jokes, but most of the operations still pose important tasks for Dani. All this is backed up by fantastic voice acting (in English). Giancarlo Esposito, who plays the role of Anton Castillo, stands out from the rest of the characters, but it doesn't feel like some kind of villain that you really want to kill. On his part, too few dramatic actions and meanness towards Dani Rojas were taken. At least Dani acts as if nothing had happened and quickly forgets about the death of his friends at the beginning of the game.
The game has excellent visual design. Emotions can be traced on the faces of the characters depending on the actions taking place, and this, of course, is due to modern technologies. Just look at El Presidente's grimaces. There are hints of cruelty and tyranny on his face. The environment also boasts good visualization. Yara is a beautiful island, inextricably linked to the destruction that Castillo sows. This is what the series lacked. Even in Far Cry 5.
You can travel around Yara together with amigo - companion animals, of which there are as many as 6 in the game. This is an alligator, and several dogs (including a dachshund with a wheelchair), and a black panther, and even a fighting cock. Even if you don't use amigo skills as often, you'll find that traveling with them isn't all that lonely.
Finally, the gameplay. I played the game on the PlayStation 5, and thanks to the Sony gamepad, weapons, vehicle controls and other processes feel more realistic than ever. Also, there are a lot of weapons in the game. By tradition, most missions can be completed in stealth or in open confrontation. What we are used to when talking about the Far Cry series. Unfortunately, no matter how ridiculous it may sound, some of the major innovations in the gameplay are sometimes confusing.
One of the things that was brought back to the series after seeing the success of Far Cry New Dawn was the health bars. The enemies here are not very strong, and the health bar is just confusing. It's ridiculous to watch how the health bar drops by only a third, although you just hit the enemy right in the head. Or are there cheaters on Yar?
Another tedious innovation is enemy vulnerabilities. Before attacking any object (unless, of course, you are playing on the minimum difficulty), you have to conduct reconnaissance using a phone that shows the vulnerabilities of opponents. Among other things - information about what kind of ammunition is best used against a particular soldados. And before each battle, you need to use a workbench to redesign your weapons and choose the most suitable ammunition. And all this is blown up to such an extent that players begin to believe what is happening and seriously regard the importance of choosing the right ammunition. In fact, the system is overblown and only confusing, since even the most ordinary cartridges can easily finish off an armored target. It is enough to knock off her helmet from her head.
The crafting system seems intrusive as well. The supremo system is especially confusing. Frankly, I forgot about her as soon as they told me. And after the creation of the first supremo, he did not use it until the end of the game. Perhaps, if you get used to it, then it will even be interesting to fight with her. Far Cry 6 has a lot to love, but also a lot to hate.
Far Cry 6 is the strongest entry in the series in terms of visuals, technical content, content volume, and violence, but it does have its downsides. Gorgeous characters and despising El Presidente, a huge arsenal of weapons, which, unfortunately, is overflowing with unnecessary additions. Artificially slowing down combat with enemy health and vulnerability bars takes away the fun of Far Cry. Ubisoft has been able to add so much content to the map that it's about to explode. Despite all the positives, the game suffers from obsessive, boring side quests and tedious new mechanics that sometimes overshadow the funniest things.
Verdict : Recommended for fans of the series and fans of modern open-world shooters
The success of the title is quite expected.
