While Disney animated films have consistently performed well at the box office, the latest animated family adventure, Weirdworld, has not been as profitable. The film was released on Thanksgiving Day and brought in only 18.6 million dollars. The company expected the film to gross between $30 million and $40 million from 4,174 theaters in North America. At the international box office, the film grossed only $9.2 million. Strange World cost $180 million to film, so it's unlikely to pay off.
The success of the title is quite expected.
