Disney's "Weird World" cartoon about same-sex love did not live up to the expectations of the company

While Disney animated films have consistently performed well at the box office, the latest animated family adventure, Weirdworld, has not been as profitable. Strange World is about a family of Clyde explorers. An ecological catastrophe is looming and the family must come together to save their home. Starring Jake Gyllenhaal, Lucy Liu and Dennis Quaid.

The film was released on Thanksgiving Day and brought in only 18.6 million dollars. The company expected the film to gross between $30 million and $40 million from 4,174 theaters in North America. At the international box office, the film grossed only $9.2 million. Strange World cost $180 million to film, so it's unlikely to pay off.
