Red Dead Redemption 2 freezes, crashes, won't launch on PC - what to do?

Just a few days ago, all owners of personal computers got the opportunity to play the second part of Red Dead Redemption, which has already become legendary.

But on the day of release, users were in for a big surprise: almost all the players who pre-ordered Red Dead Redemption 2 could not run the game on PC. Fortunately, by the time this guide was written, the problem was solved and the project resumed its work. However, in-game errors did not decrease from this. Today we will analyze in detail all the known bugs and errors of RDR2 and give advice on how to fix them.

Disable your antivirus

Before installing Red Dead Redemption 2 directly, you must disable all antiviruses, including Windows Defender . In most cases, antivirus programs mistakenly believe that game files can harm the PC and simply block them. After installation, be sure to enable the security software, but to avoid further file conflicts, add the RDR2.exe application to your antivirus exclusion list.

This advice is relevant only when using the official version of the game. In all other cases, do it at your own peril and risk!

Free up space on your hard drive

Red Dead Redemption 2 is one of the few games that requires more than 140 gigabytes of free disk space. Before installing the game, make sure you have enough space on your hard drive or solid state drive. Otherwise, after installation, the application may work with errors, or it may not start at all.

Update your video card drivers

The GPU driver acts as a bridge between the actual hardware and the game. You should not write it off, since most errors and freezes in the game can occur precisely in the presence of an outdated driver version. You can check for updates on the websites of NVIDIA and AMD manufacturers.

Close all applications

Before launching RDR2, we recommend that you end all third-party processes, including background ones. Some of them can consume a large amount of CPU or RAM resources, which will inevitably lead to freezes and errors. To do it?? - open " Task Manager " and in the " Processes " tab, monitor and end all applications that consume the most resources.

Red Dead Redemption 2 Exited Unexpectedly

At the moment, this error is the most common among PC users. You can watch it right in the middle of the gameplay, after which the application exits and prompts you to submit a bug report to Rockstar Games. To do this, as it turned out, is useless. But, some craftsmen have already found an effective way to solve this problem:

  1. Open the Rockstar Games Launcher;
  2. Select "Settings";
  3. Find "Red Dead Redemption 2" under "My Games";
  4. Select "View in folder";
  5. Right click on the RDR2.exe application;
  6. Select "Properties";
  7. On the "Compatibility" tab, select "Run this program as an administrator";
  8. Check the box next to "Disable full screen optimization";
  9. Click "OK" and return to the games menu in the Rockstar Games Launcher;
  10. Launch the application.
