Lollipop Chainsaw remake announced for 2023 release

The development will be done by the author of the original.
Lollipop Chainsaw remake announced for 2023 release

After a teaser released last month, there is finally official confirmation: Lollipop Chainsaw is getting a complete remake in 2023!

The announcement comes from publisher Dragami Games, led by the original game's producer Yoshimi Yasuda. The game will be released next year worldwide, though no official title or platform has yet been announced. It will be created by "a team consisting of the developers of the original version, including Yasuda as a producer, and new creators from Dragami Games."

The game will be faithful to the original, but Yasuda explained that the remake will definitely get a few key differences. There will certainly be a "more realistic approach to graphics" made possible by powerful next-generation hardware. Less desirable for fans will be the news that the authors have problems with music licensing: not all 16 original tracks will make it into the remake, so the soundtrack will consist of "some licensed tracks and new music."

The iconic action game was released in 2012: game director Suda51, film director James Gunn and Yasuda collaborated to present the story of Juliet Starling, a high school cheerleader facing off against a zombie invasion.

Yasuda added:

Unfortunately, several factors have led to the fact that fans have been unable to launch Lollipop Chainsaw for a long time. It has been a long time since players lost access to the game on current generation consoles.

We, the original developers of Lollipop Chainsaw, consider this game very valuable and don't want to leave it in such a state of limbo when players who want to play it simply can't. So we purchased the IP Lollipop Chainsaw from Kadokawa Games and decided to develop a remake. We have already contacted Warner Bros. about the development, and they fully supported us.
