James Cameron plans to pull out of Avatar 4 and Avatar 5

The release of the next film in the series, Avatar 2: The Way of the Water, is just months away, and its sequel is already scheduled for 2024. Director James Cameron has repeatedly stated that he has huge plans for the fourth and fifth parts. But, unfortunately, he can refuse to participate in their filming.

In an interview with Empire, Cameron stated:

The Avatar movies take way too long. I have other exciting things that I do. I think that over time - I don't know, after three or after four parts - I will want to pass the baton to a director I trust, who will take responsibility, and I will be able to do other things that are interesting to me. Or maybe not. I don't know yet.

Cameron has always been famous for his passion for his own films and worlds.

Everything I need to say about family, about sustainability, about the climate, about the natural world, about topics that are important to me in real life and in my cinematic life, I try to convey in the picture. As I move forward, I become more and more absorbed in what I am doing. The fourth film is a kind of barrier... I really hope that I can overcome it.

Thus, only time will tell if Cameron devotes even more of his time to the world he created with great love. His dedication is felt both in the plot and in the technical part, when he had to deal with underwater filming.

Avatar 2: The Way of the Water will be released on December 16, 2022, 13 years after the original.
