IGN Dead Island 2 Details: Dismemberment and Clown Boss

At the Gamescom exhibition, journalists were able not only to see the first trailer of Dead Island 2, but also played it. The author of IGN spent a total of 20 minutes in the game and shared his first impressions.

Dead Island 2 is being developed by Dambuster Studios, the creators of Homefront: The Revolution. The authors abandoned the developments of the studios Yager Development and Sumo Digital, who had previously worked on the game.

In the demo, the main character was the girl Amy, but in addition to her, Dead Island 2 will have five more playable characters. The mission took place in the middle of the story campaign on the coast of Los Angeles, inhabited by zombies. The purpose of the assignment was to find a laptop with a drive called the Blood Drive.

The journalist noted that the developers paid special attention to close combat. There are firearms in the game, but, according to the author, using them is not so fun, since the dismemberment is worked out in detail in the game. A separate system called FLESH (“FLESH”) is responsible for it. Also in Dead Island 2 there is an ability that allows you to deal with zombies with your bare hands.

The IGN author mentioned that the character moves quickly, changes weapons literally on the fly, and the stamina bar is consumed slowly. Thanks to this, the player can experiment with killing zombies and not worry that his hero will need to take a breath.

You can also use the environment in combat, such as setting fire to spilled oil or throwing electric batteries into the water. Some zombies also carry gas canisters and water bottles.

The journalist spoke about one of the bosses - the zombie clown Butcho, who used the bones of his hand as spears. In battle, he restored health by devouring surrounding zombies.

In Dead Island 2 you can craft the craziest weapons. So, the author of IGN used a fire ax to which blowtorches were attached, and an electric weapon that looked like Wolverine's claws.

Instead of a skill tree, cards with abilities and buffs will appear in the game. The journalist hopes that the system will be flexible, but he did not have enough time to study it in detail.

The release of Dead Island 2 is scheduled for February 3 on PC and current consoles.
