The next game from Yacht Club Games, the developer best known for the platformer Shovel Knight, will be a brand new project called Mina The Hollower.
For the first time for the company, the game will have nothing to do with the Shovel Knight series. This time, players will be asked to take on the mantle of Mina, the adorable but deadly mouse. At the same time, don't let the game's bright and cute scenery fool you: Yacht Club promises to give players a "bone-chilling" gaming experience.
In an effort to save the cursed island from the dangers that have befallen it, Mina must "jump, dodge and dig in the ground" while fending off monsters with her trusty Nightstar Whip or other trinkets and weapons. As if that doesn't sound convincing enough on its own, the entire game is styled as a tribute to games from the Game Boy Color era: pixelated enemies, top-down perspective, and (very important for any Game Boy game) a great chiptune soundtrack. Imagine Castlevania and Link's Awakening having a baby. They would be the title Mina The Hollower. You can see the first trailer for the game below.
To fund the creation of Mina The Hollower, Yacht Club Games went back to Kickstarter. It looks like this move has paid off. The developers have confidently reached $311,503, and this number continues to grow. At the time of writing, the total fees are $524,796.
Meanwhile, the studio continues to develop the Shovel Knight series. Recently released Shovel Knight: Pocket Dungeon.
The success of the title is quite expected.
New heroes, new challenges.
