Bayonetta 3 Review

The Bayonetta series is beyond description. It's hard to describe or tell anything about these games to a newbie without them thinking you're crazy. A dedicated community, crazy story, and well-crafted action are all hallmarks of the franchise. If you've made it all the way from the first game to Bayonetta 3, you know what to expect from the third installment. And, fortunately, the last game will not disappoint anyone. If you were hoping to get more content from your favorite franchise, you're in luck! Bayonetta 3 has it all in abundance.

The new story is another portion of the multiverse that we have been enjoying for many years. Surprisingly, in recent years, half a dozen franchises have decided to dive into their own multiverses. According to the plot of Bayonetta 3, a certain entity called the Singularity absorbs the universes in order to make the Alfaverse even stronger. All you need to know is that Bayonetta managed to stop this crazy campaign. The story is quite adequate, but this is not the main reason why I undertake the passage of the third part. We are all here, the fans - for the action!

Luckily, the aforementioned action is excellent. Bayonetta can summon new demons, use new weapons. Each call is unique in its own way, the new weapon looks even cooler. You have options for literally everything depending on your needs - increased range, powerful damage, improved air combos. One extended set of Bayonetta's moves is enough to incentivize players for multiple playthroughs. Not to mention the sections with Viola and Zhanna.

Variety of gameplay

Playing as Jeanne completely changes the situation. Suddenly Bayonetta 3 turns into a side-scroll stealth game. There are not so many levels, but they are all amazing. Each of them has an opening sequence that begs for an anime adaptation. The controls work smoothly, the action is dynamic, and the music is amazing.

Viola is a mystery. She is also powerful, fiery and funny, just like Bayonetta. Her movements resemble those of the main character, but with a few important differences. I found Viola's Witch Time to be much more difficult to activate, although her ranged attack makes up for it. You see, instead of dodging, you need to block. This tiny shift is completely off course. I spent a lot of healing items trying to fit into this new system. For players who are looking for something new, Viola is the icing on the cake. Her personality is very different from the self-confident Bayonetta, but the movements seem familiar. Regardless, playing as Viola is a breath of fresh air.

Frequent pressing of different buttons does not allow you to properly focus on action, but in Bayonetta 3 the situation is corrected by an abundance of various movements. You have access to long-range strikes, light and heavy attacks, summoning demons, dodging, parrying and Witch Time. In addition, the game itself tells you how to realize all the potential inherent in the main character. Bayonetta may seem like the all-powerful Witch of Time, but throughout the game you'll find more and more ways to prove it in combat. Whenever something got boring, I simply switched to one of the dozen different fighting techniques that I was taught.

Dance of Death

The series is famous for its incredible boss battles. Bayonetta 3 proudly continues the tradition. There is something remarkable about seeing Bayonetta start dancing as a huge demon devours her enemies.

The combat animation is great, although I did experience some minor glitches during some of the cutscenes. It seems like the devs put all their energy into making Bayonetta look amazing, so they made some minor visual blunders. But Bayonetta really looks incredible! Game backgrounds and secondary characters are not inferior to her.

Attentive fans will notice that Bayonetta's voice sounds different. I will not go into details, all this has already been raised in the media, just to emphasize that another actor is responsible for dubbing. I have no complaints about Bayonetta's new voice, although real fans will be shocked by such a change.

Whether you like this game or not depends on what you expect from it. In a world of hypersexual, campy, crazy action games, Bayonetta 3 sets a new standard. Each successive boss fight raises the bar, both suspenseful and enchanting. Movements and techniques have become even more diverse, the characters are more attractive. If you haven't been a fan of the Bayonetta games before , I can't guarantee the fact that this time will be different. The pacing and main loop of the gameplay stays pretty much the same. But for fans of the Bayonetta 3 franchise, it will be a real treat. If you liked the first two games, be sure to try this one as well.
