Nintendo may be porting Mario Kart to PC

It looks like Nintendo might release Mario Kart on PC. Or one of the franchise versions.

The Mario Kart Tour Discord community has been looking into the latest game update, posted by ResetEra user MondoMega. Fans have discovered a set of strings that they guess point to a PC port of Mario Kart Tour. Among other things, it talks about mouse input recognition. Also, some lines point to an emulator, but it is unlikely that legitimate software will appear in the near future that allows you to run Nintendo games on a PC.

As MondoMega noted, Google's Google Play Games project, which is currently in beta testing, will allow Android users to emulate games on PC. And this is the most reasonable explanation for what the dataminers actually found in the Tour files. In the past, Nintendo has been adamant and has refused to publish its games on other platforms. The only concessions were mobile games, and then only when they could tie the experience to their flagship console titles.

Mario Kart Tour and Fire Emblem Heroes, released in 2019 and 2017 respectively, became their own meta-verses. Fire Emblem Heroes' earnings recently crossed the $1 billion threshold. However, with Mario Kart 8 Deluxe in the NPD Group's top 25 bestsellers every month, it's unlikely that Nintendo will bring its major hits to other platforms.
