Rick Grimes and Michonne to return in The Walking Dead spin-off

Rick Grimes' fate and future have been uncertain ever since the former sheriff "sacrificed" himself to save his family in The Walking Dead Season 9. But soon everything will become clear...

At Comic-Con 2022 in San Diego, a conference of the creators of the long-running zombie TV show was held, which showed a roadmap with the future of Rick. Andrew Lincoln's character will appear in the cut-down series along with his long-lost love Michonne (Danai Gurira) as early as 2023. The TV show will consist of 6 episodes.

As for the full-length feature films of The Walking Dead, their development is on hold, and all efforts are focused on this untitled series. Lincoln and Gurira became executive producers on the series and are described as "actively involved" in creating the next chapter in their characters' lives. Showrunner Scott Gimple:

Rick and Michonne are two of my favorite characters, and Danai and Andy are two of my favorite people. Working with them is still a dream come true. Our trio, along with TWD's amazing all-star team, creates a crazy love epic that's worth the wait.

The official synopsis for the series speaks of the couple's dramatic adventure, which will tell "an epic love story between two characters who have been influenced by a changed world. Separated by distance. Irresistible force. Ghosts of who they were. Rick and Michonne find themselves in another world based on a war with the undead... And finally, a war with the living... Will they be able to find each other and who they were in a place and situation unlike any other? what of what they ever knew? Are they enemies? Lovers? Victims? Winners? Are they alive without each other - or will they realize that they have also become the Walking Dead?

AMC also confirmed at SDCC that The Walking Dead Season 11 Part 3 will air on October 2, 2022. Work is also ongoing on a TV show with Maggie and Negan.
