Sons of the Forest doesn't have a large map that you can unlock at any point in the game. Instead, you need to use interactive services and a small phone with GPS installed.
After the crash, open the inventory by pressing the I key. Hover over the transparent package on the right to get a tactical ax, a book with recipes for building and crafting, and a GPS device. Click on this device, and the hero will pick up the phone. The one that you can see on the screenshots in the guides.
Purple markers on the phone indicate important plot items and objects, green markers - other points of interest. At the same time, there are places that are not marked with markers in any way, but you can find something interesting in them. Be sure to explore everything you see in the open world!
