So, Rogue Legacy 2 is an action game with elements of a simplified roguelike (roguelite), which focuses on intense platform battles. It is not as dark and confusing as it might seem at first glance. As the name of the game suggests, it is all about heritage and family. Every time one of the heroes dies (and this will happen often), you can take his descendant to repeat the run. The problem is bad genealogy: every child of their ancestor is born with some kind of quirk. One hero sees everything exclusively in black and white, another will be a giant, and the third will fart instead of using a spell. I am not kidding.

If you've played the original Rogue Legacy, you'll be familiar with the gameplay. You run, jump a lot, fight enemies, inevitably fail and die. The gameplay from moment to moment seems exactly the same. It's still exciting, the battles are just as old-school, and the game itself is still (like the original) incredibly difficult. However, the difficulty is one of the biggest changes from the original, as Rogue Legacy 2 introduces house rules.

House rules - a set of difficulty options, fine-tuning, thanks to which each of the players will be able to enjoy the gaming experience. You can edit enemies' health and damage, turn off contact damage, and even switch to flying mode (if you're not a fan of platformers). It's not the biggest change for the sequel, but it's arguably one of the most important.

Other than that, Rogue Legacy 2 has a lot of gameplay elements and features. There are many more classes, spells, locations and bosses. Not only that, the story is easier to follow and develops over multiple playthroughs. You can unlock the lore by healing the scars you encounter around the world. And you will also speak to many more gods.

There are other mechanics as well. The first of these is determination or decisiveness. This is a kind of currency that you can spend throughout the adventure to unlock powerful relics. The latter often provide huge buffs to various stats or attacks. You can find relics that set weapons on fire, or even relics that will resurrect you if the character dies. Fun balance: the game tries to test how long you can last before realizing that you need to spend resolve.

While Rogue Legacy 2 still uses procedural world generation for each new run, it has added elements of Metroidvania. Some areas of Rogue Legacy 2 cannot be reached until you unlock certain skills. You can do this by completing difficult tasks scattered around the map, but once you get the skill, you unlock it permanently. Thanks to this, as well as the improvement of the castle, equipment and other elements, a sense of progress is created that goes beyond your own playing abilities.

Die-hard roguelite fans will also enjoy the simplified combat of Rogue Legacy 2. The game is fun and fun, but it still lacks the variety that, for example, Dead Cells or Hades can boast. At times, the game feels boring when it comes to unlocking some of the most expensive skills, although this is slightly offset by the house rules, thanks to which you can speed up the process.
