First, start at the original helicopter crash site. Look out for the purple exclamation mark on the far left of your GPS tracking device, which is included in the emergency kit, when you first arrive on the island. Make sure you zoom out on the GPS tracker as much as possible to make it easier to find the exclamation mark.
Keep moving left towards this purple exclamation mark until you see it on the GPS (it will be deep in the water on a small orange inflatable that you can see from the shoreline). Swim straight until you reach the side of the boat, where there is a ladder that you can climb inside. Get ready there will be sharks that will attack.
Inside the boat, grab the gun from the corpse and interact with it to add it to your bag.
Several different types of ammoCan be found all over the map in mutant camps, as well as inside crates. Ammunition can also be found in caves and bunkers scattered around the GPS tracker.
The GPS tracker is on the same orange inflatable boat as the Pistol. Just walk up to the body, interact with the GPS tracker and it will be added to the orange crate on the far left side of your inventory. It can be used to keep track of Virginia (which becomes very useful later in the future).
