Microsoft has unveiled an updated wired Xbox stereo headset that will cost $59.99. It's a much more affordable device than the $100 wireless counterpart released at the beginning of the year. The headset will be available on September 21st, but as you might expect, it lacks some of the features of a wireless device, although most of the design remains intact.
On the outer side of the right ear cushion is a rotary dial that adjusts the volume level. On the back of the flexible microphone there is a mute button - the same as in the wireless version. The stereo headset does not have the chat/game audio mixing control that is found on the left earcup of the wireless headphones. But, you see, given the price range, the loss is not so significant.
The headset connects to the Xbox controller via a green 3.5mm cable and plug, which means you can use it with other devices (and gamepads) that support this plug. Microsoft says the stereo headset supports surround sound technologies such as Dolby Atmos, Windows Sonic and DTS:X. Also, the headphones are characterized by "clear mids and highs along with strong bass." If the sound quality is the same as that of the wireless version, then gamers should be satisfied with the model, the cost of which is almost 2 times lower.
The stereo headset can be pre-ordered from Microsoft's Store, but the company says it will be available from other retailers as well.
